This database summarizes the results of research trials using plant growth regulators (PGRs) on over 100 containerized herbaceous perennial species/cultivars. This summary includes rates found effective in reducing plant height in published articles, as well as many of our own research results. Rates listed were tested as spray applications at label-recommended volumes unless otherwise stated. Foliar spray applications are tested more often than drenches, presumably due to the higher labor costs involved in applying drenches in large scale production areas. The rates listed and precautions/remarks are intended to provide starting rate information to allow you to establish your own PGR trials. Where multiple applications of a PGR are suggested, these are generally applied 10 to 14 days apart. Note: "NR" means the plants were "not responsive" to a given PGR at the rates listed. (Data compiled by Joyce Latimer, Holly Scoggins, and Tom Banko, Herbaceous Perennials Program, Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA; last updated: Apr 28, 2006.)
