    Cultivar Recommendations

       Terms & Conditions of Use

Need helping deciding which poinsettia cultivars would best serve your specific needs? From the tried and true to bold new inventions, these recommendations can point you in the right direction.

    - By Jim Barrett and John Dole

Deciding which poinsettia cultivars to grow is based on many factors and highly dependent on the market served. These recommendations are based on the cultivars’ performance in our trials, other trial sites and commercial greenhouses. The National Poinsettia Trials evaluate new introductions and compare them to older varieties. Included in this list are newer varieties that show promise or offer characteristics not available in other cultivars, as well as established, older cultivars that are still important and make up most of commercial production. Not all available cultivars are on this list, and we have omitted some that were on previous lists.

John Dole is professor of floriculture at North Carolina State University. Jim Barrett is professor of floriculture at University of Florida. They can be reached at john_dole@ncsu.edu nd jbarrett@ufl.edu, respectively.
